Secretary-Treasurer Patrick D. Kelly: This year effective January 1, 2013 holders of commercial drivers licenses can go to traffic school if they have received a ticket in their personal vehicle. This is a result of a lot of agitation by the Teamsters Union over the last several years.

Secretary-Treasurer Patrick D. Kelly: The mobilization by labor against Prop 32 was the strongest effort in recent history. We want to thank all members, their families, friends volunteers, retirees, the stewards, the Joint Council Action Team and our staff for the tremendous effort made to make sure that we defeated Prop 32.

Secretary-Treasurer Patrick D. Kelly: In order to defeat the hostile corporate and conservative power grab known as Prop 32 we must step up our voter registration and mobilization activity. The deadline to register to vote is October 22nd. There are way too many members and their families not registered.

Secretary-Treasurer Patrick D. Kelly: Prop 32 would eliminate our ability to raise money for political contributions through payroll deduction. It would essentially kill DRIVE and drastically eliminate our ability to communicate with our members and politicians about the issues that affect our membership and their families.

Secretary-Treasurer Patrick D. Kelly: We need to register to vote a couple more thousand members and all of our families in order to help us defeat an anti-union ballot measure that is being pushed by the 1% against the 99%.

Secretary-Treasurer Patrick D. Kelly: The War on Workers continues in California. It is absolutely essential that Teamsters and their families register to vote preferably, (PAV) Permanent Absentee Voter. If you do that you do not have to worry about traveling to the poll on election day and we can concentrate on getting our members and their families to vote before election day.

Secretary-Treasurer Patrick D. Kelly: The Labor Movement and the Teamsters Movement in particular is facing a direct attack on our power to negotiate good contracts for our members and organize the unorganized. This latest attack is in the form of a referendum that is going to be held this fall that is called by us Paycheck Destruction or Paycheck Deception.
