RE: URGENT ACTION NEEDED ON U.S.-PERU FREE TRADE AGREEMENT
The vote in both the House and Senate on the U.S.-Peru free trade agreement will be happening very soon. Despite improved labor and environment standards that were added, this agreement still does not address key issues that would adversely affect workers in America and Peru. Procurement rules that place a ban on "Buy American" and anti-offshoring policies will lead to even more job loss, stagnant wages, and a growing trade deficit here at home. The subsidies given to U.S. agricultural exports will displace the rural poor of Peru and add to the already problematic issue of immigration in our country. This unfair and unbalanced trade agreement is indicative of our flawed trade policy, and no agreement should be approved until these flaws are corrected.
We urge you to contact your Congressperson today and ask for their vote against implementing this bad trade deal.
