Happy New Year and make sure you are registered to vote and signed up for DRIVE.  We have a lot of negotiations coming and we must continue to hold the elected representatives including President Obama accountable. Write, call, and email them! He needs to step up and keep his commitments to Union and non-union families regarding no taxation of health insurance benefits, labor law and pension reform. The dismantling of mass transit that is taking place throughout the U.S. is a disgrace! Get involved! Thank you for your support of the Teamsters Union.

President/Business Representative Bob Hahn:
Boeing: A meeting has been scheduled to address the issue of bus transportation of employees within the facilities. UPS: We are monitoring the effects the economy is having on the members and are pursuing grievances in the feeder department regarding Sunday work.

Vice President/Business Representative Don Brewster:
Albertson’s Irvine Grocery & Produce: We are meeting with Management regarding order selector standards.  IBT Engineers are working with Employer Engineers to make corrections on fork lift standards. Aramark: Thanks for your input at our recent proposal meeting.

Recording Secretary/Business Representative Donna Metcalfe:
OCTA: We have worked with OCTA to put together a Southern California Transit Forum on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Chapman University in the city of Orange. For more information visit our website at www.teamsters952.org. Various panelists and speakers will discuss the state funding crisis and its impact. We start contract negotiations on February 28th. Watch the bulletin board and talk to the stewards.

Business Representative Joe Dornbach:
CVS: Make sure the Local has your correct mailing address as bargaining surveys are being sent out. Albertsons: The employer requested a thirty day extension on the submission of briefs with respect to the part-time issue and it was granted.

Business Representative Eric Henry:
Albertson's Irvine: Good luck to new pallet department Steward Alonzo Nevarez. All Stewards in the maintenance departments will be meeting to prepare for up-coming negotiations. Bargaining surveys will be mailed this spring. CVS: Negotiations will begin in April.

Business Representative Ruben Lopez:
Veolia:Four drivers were returned to work after being terminated for a zero-tolerance cell phone policy.  The policy was unilaterally implemented in December 2008 and ULP charges were filed. Now there is a new understanding that allows the company to issue discipline on a case by case basis.  The Federal Government is cracking the whip on cell phones and texting, don't use them while your driving. MV/OCTA: Congratulations to new Steward Oscar Donoso.

Business Representative Michael D. McHugh:
SWSP-Riverside: We have resolved the issue regarding semi work. Cerritos facility: We are in meetings with the company regarding the relocation of clerical work.  Young’s Market: Christa Miller was awarded a back pay claim of $31,163.93!  UPS Laguna: Several grievances has been resolved for supervisors doing bargaining unit work. Report violations to your Union Steward. UPS Freight: We're working on the issue of casuals working during layoffs.

Business Representative Jeff Sweet:
Pepsi: Congratulations to newly elected Transport Steward Andy Masotto.  Negotiations will begin in February. 7UP: Watch for a vote regarding a contract offer.  7UP Buena Park: The facility is closing, stay in contact with the Local regarding other employment opportunities.

Business Representative Ken Germain:
We regret to inform you that Irvine DC Driver Steward Paul Hamilton passed on 1-21-10. Albertson’s Irvine: The annual drivers bid is likely to be held at the end of February. Albertson’s, Ralphs and CVS drivers: Negotiations are coming. Make sure the Local has your address and phone number. Farmer Bros: We are meeting regarding the consolidation and your contract.

Business Representative Grant Maertz:
UPS: We are hopeful of continuing a trend that started in the fall of bringing back more COMBO jobs to the Anaheim building.  Several were brought back in November and as the volume increases we are pushing for more. 

Business Representative Frank Sevilla:
Contract negotiations for Coke and Pepsi will commence in February 2010. The Locals will exchange proposals with Pepsi on February 1st. Coke negotiations will commence on February 5, 2010. We will keep you updated as negotiations develop. ABF: Regretfully Sister Rhonda Gonzales passed away recently, she is survived by her husband Brother Michael Gonzales, and their five children. Congratulations to long time Teamsters Randy Colley and Tom Barnett of YRCW (Yellow/Roadway) on their retirement.

Business Representative Ernesto Medrano:

Negotiations are currently underway with the City of Anaheim (Convention Center) as well as Disneyland Craft Maintenance Council and Angels Baseball. We are meeting with various members of the Anaheim City Council to keep them informed and updated as to the work that we do at the Convention Center. If you are ever called into a meeting with management and believe the meeting could lead to discipline exercise your right to have a Union steward present. Ask your Union steward for “Weingarten Rights” cards. We have crucial legislation in the various political arenas. It is important that you register to vote.
