Application for the 2013-2014 Academic Year
has ended.

James R. Hoffa became a Teamster member in 1934 and served as General President for 14 years, and, in recognition of his tireless service to the Union and its members, was honored as General President Emeritus for life. At the November 1999 General Executive Board meeting, General Secretary-Treasurer C. Thomas Keegel presented a resolution to establish the new scholarship fund.

You can download an application provided by the link above, stop by our office or call (714) 740-6225 to have one mailed to you.

Applicants should complete the application and forward it to the Teamsters parent/grandparent's Local Union.  We recommend submitting completed applications to our Local Union two weeks prior to the application deadline which would be BY MARCH 15, 2013 - in order to complete processing before deadline date.

The applications must be received to the Scholarship Fund by the deadline of March 31, 2013.  Any applications that have not been sent from a local union office will be returned to the applicant.

 In November 1999, the General Executive Board passed a resolution to create an independent, not-for-profit scholarship fund dedicated to the memory of the revered former General President, James R. Hoffa. Since its creation, the James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund has helped hundreds of Teamster children and grandchildren finance their education.

The James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund Essay Contest will award $1,000.00 scholarships annually to 50 students. All applicants must comply with the following eligibility criteria.

Applicant must be the child or grandchild of a Teamster member who has been in good standing for 12 consecutive months prior to the application deadline

• Applicant must be 23 years old or younger as of September 30

• Be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate college, university or community college program, or a technical or vocations program.

The applicant must attached a type-written essay of 500 words or less and the following topic: 

What Role can Labor Unions Play in Creating Jobs and Jumpstarting the Economy?

       Scholarship Program 2013

Who is eligible?    Applicants must be the child of an active Teamster Union member of a Local Union affiliated with Joint Council 42, graduating from high school  in 2013.

How to apply?      Obtain applications from a Teamster Local Union, JC42 or www.teamsters.info  (requirements are listed on application)

This scholarship will be awarded to.........

          Deserving High School Seniors Graduating this Year who are:

          A daughter or son of an active Teamster member whose dues are current with his/her Local

          Union and:

          Attending or have been accepted by an accredited University, College or Trade School,

          Applicants selected as finalists must promptly provide:

                    Proof of Acceptance to their selected university, college or trade school;

                    Provide a wallet size photo.

Completed application must first be sent to Local Union 952 for membership verification.
